Iván Fischer’s Mahler Cycle

Mahler’s beauty always hurts. His work has a certain lyricism to it that is incredibly moving. Especially in the slow movements you can hear a certain love, almost a divine kind of love. It flows, endlessly.
– Iván Fischer

Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra conclude their Mahler Cycle with Das Lied von der Erde. Find all of their Mahler recordings here.

Double 5 Star BBC Music Review for Anna Fedorova

“…That Anna Fedorova has a special feeling for this work is not only evident in her introductory essay in the booklet: the way the second theme – the work’s first moment of quintessential Rachmaninov – emerges dream-like out of silence is very special…”

” … Fedorova’s reflective yet never over-indulgent style of playing is also evident in the preludes. Her technique is fluent but never facile – witness the crystalline textures of the G sharp minor Prelude. …”

“… the Paganini Rhapsody initially appears a scintillating and very extensive encore, demonstrating Fedorova’s fire and theatrical qualities…”

“… we enter a more enchanted world, and Fedorova’s characteristically thoughtful interpretation from that point makes us hear that there’s far more to that work than mere pyrotechnics, culminating quite naturally in the celebrated 18th variation”.

The Making Of: “Silhouettes”

We have just released ‘Silhouettes’ by violist Dana Zemtsov and pianist Anna Fedorova.

“Each piece in this album has its own story, its own thoughts and feelings. However, throughout it, if you listen with your eyes closed, you will occasionally sense the presence of a furtive silhouette ‘à la Française’.”
— Dana Zemtsov & Anna Fedorova (from liner notes)

The first review is in!

Anna Fedorova: Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 1, Preludes, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. With Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen, under the baton of Modestas Pitrenas.

“The inherent technical difficulties seem to disappear under Federova’s exquisite, yet firm toucher. For completeness sake, I checked with other versions in my library if there were comparable or better readings. I could not find any. (…) DSD 64 quality is heavenly good, with a convincing, not overstretched spatial and discrete ambient soundstage, putting the listener in the best seat in the Hall.”
