About this album

As sweet as drops of nectar Karl August Lebrun, a contemporary of Mozart’s, worshipped throughout Europe, brilliant oboist and composer of oboe concerti which , in the second half of the 18th century, must have been experienced as spectacular and pioneering…..and you’ve probably never even heard of him! I’ll tell you how it happened with me: of course, I could have taken Mozart’s over-familiar oboe concerto off the shelf again. Of course it’s a beautiful piece, but there’s some question whether Mozart actually wrote it, and to be honest, I had a VERY strong feeling that it wasn’t the first time that I’d “taken off the shelf”.

International Record Review

(...) Schneemann plays them with superb grace and fine technique and de Vriends accompaniments are thoroughly stylish and supportive. Strongly recommended.

Audiophile Audition

(...) Schneemann is clearly a master of his instrument (...)

BBC Music Magazine

(...) A highly attractive proposition for oboe fanciers and anyone who enjoys verturing into the 18th-century hinterland.

Kunst stof

(...) Schneeman speelt zijn veeleisende solos stijlbewust, kleurrijk en zangerig. Virtuose passages gaan hem net zo makelijk af als de lyrische momenten. (...)

(...) this is a release simply waiting to be enjoyed.

American Record Guide

(...) they are flat out irresistible, wonderfull works, a major discovery, and proof positive that there are still a lot of neglected masterpieces from classical times. (...) (...) His is a blended, oaken sound (...) (...) expressive and technically without flaw (...)
