Biography

Musica Reale is an initiative formed to bring together members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, in a variety of formations, for the performance of chamber music in all its aspects. All instruments being available in the orchestra, the choice of programming is enormous.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s reputation and prestige in the world can hardly be overstated. Its ‘sound’ and personality are instantly recognizable to music lovers. The transparency of ensemble and enormously broad palette of colors produced, its ‘chamber music-like’ approach to performing the most intricate and varied repertoire are frequently cited by public and critics alike. Therefore, what better way to demonstrate these characteristics than through the performance of chamber music by the orchestra’s members? It is they after all, with their musicianship and virtuosity, who inform the identity of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Our aim is to bring the world of chamber music to a wide international audience, at the highest level of performance and in an informal, welcoming atmosphere. As one of Musica Reale’s activities, an annual Italian summer festival was begun in July 2007 in the Tuscan wine town of Montalcino, famous for its Brunello. A similar project for Japan is in the planning stage. A special word of thanks is due to the splendid colleagues who, through their talent, devotion and wonderful playing, have made Musica Reale's first release possible.
