Among the musical activities in the Terezn (Theresienstadt) concentration camp, the presentations of Hans Krasa's childrens opera Brundibr had, without any doubt, a very special standing. Not necessarily for the artistic standards - after all, the young singers were not seasoned artists - but rather for their singing, so spontaneous and radiant, that it became a must for the majority of the Terezin inhabitants to attend it. In popularity Brundibr surpassed even the most beloved Czech opera, Smetanas The Bartered Bride....
