In het juryrapport worden de musici door Marcel Schopman bejubeld om de fraaie opname van de cantates van Bach: ‘Niet sinds Elly Ameling bijna veertig jaar geleden Bachs cantate ‘Mein Herze schwimmt in Blut’ opnam, is er een fraaiere opname van dit werk verschenen dan deze uitvoering door Johannette Zomer. De Nederlandse sopraan die al jaren tot de top van de oude-muziekwereld behoort, zingt deze solo cantate met verbluffend gemak en een parelende klank. (…) Zomer zingt ook ‘Ich habe genug’, cantate BWV 82a, in de versie voor sopraan en fluit. De slotaria daarvan, ‘Ich freue mich auf meinem Tod’, klinkt zo beeldschoon dat je de tekst bijna zou gaan geloven. Ashley Solomon levert bewonderenswaardig fluitspel en ook de andere musici van het Britse barokensemble Florilegium lijkt alles even gemakkelijk af te gaan. Speels en virtuoos klinkt Bachs Tweede orkestsuite met de beroemde Badinerie: een feest voor het oor! Ook de sinfonia uit cantate BWV 146 mag er zijn: een virtuoos werk en een waardige start van een productie die op constant hoog niveau staat. Maar de ster van de opname is ontegenzeggelijk Johannette Zomer. (…)

Channel Classics is always eager to work on projects that combine both challenging repertoire and Channel Classics artists.

•Soprano Johannette Zomer and oboe player Bart Schneemann can be heard on many of our recordings. On the CD ‘It Takes Two’ they recorded Vaughan Williams Blake Songs together. Their musical relationship will be continued with a recording in September 2008 of beautiful -well-known and lesser known- arias for oboe and soprano by Händel like Will the sun forget to streak (from Solomon); Guardians, angels, O protect me (from Triumph of time and Truth); Chi intende (from Bernice); Ah Spietato (from Amadigidi Gaula); Süsser Blumer, In den angenehmen Buschen (from Deutsche Arias).

• After the succesfull debut cd with music from the Comedian Harmonists, the vocal group Frommermann will tour through Holland in the fall of 2008 with another ‘historical’ project, a  theatrical concert  program ‘The Holland-America Line’. Dutch life songs, bluegrass, gospel and jazz from artists like The Ramblers, Johnny & Jones, The Millers, The Mills Brothers, The Ink Spots and Duke Ellington will be recorded in August.

• Lavinia Meijer - harpist, is a new artist  on the Channel Classics label. She  is recognized worldwide as one of the most promising rising stars of the moment. Born in Korea and adopted into a dutch family, she is now based in the Netherlands. Special awards have been given to her, such as the MeesPierson award and the Vriendenkrans of the Royal Concertgebouw from Amsterdam and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust from London. The recording plans with Lavinia this spring include music by Caplet, Salzedo, and Ibert.

Concerten 2008/2009 in Amsterdam en Eindhoven

Channel Classics presenteert voor de vierde keer een serie met aansprekende kamermuziek concerten door musici die verbonden zijn aan het label. Op de zondagochtend in de Philipszaal in Eindhoven, op dinsdag- en zaterdagavonden in Muziekgebouw aan ’t Ij in Amsterdam. Vaste Channel gezichten zoals het duo Pieter Wispelwey en Paolo Giacometti, pianist Dejan Lazic en vocaal ensemble The Gents treden op naast ensembles als Frommermann en Holland Baroque Society. Een gevarieerde serie die de voorafgaande jaren met veel enthousiasme is ontvangen. Na afloop van de concerten is het mogelijk de musici persoonlijk in de foyer te ontmoeten.
