I have a MacBook Pro and use Audirvana Plus. I have also used the free version. The free test downloads I have done of DSD have not been as good as 24/96. The Audirvana
Plus plays the DSD files as 24/44.1. I do not have a dedicated DAC yet but use my Quad CDP2 which has a 24/96 DAC on board. The spec. says it is a 196 khz DAC but it does not play at that resolution. Straight from my MacBook the sound is still not a good as 24/96. Clearly I shall have to wait till I get a fully compliant DAC to hear the better sound that DSD should give.

I think we are still at the early developmental stage of audiophile DACs at sensible prices and I am waiting to see what happens before I spend my money! Also there is so much contradictory blogs about high-res music it is a bit of a case of three steps forward and one step back!

Things seemed to be a great deal more simple technologically in days gone by when one had a vinyl disc and an LP12!!!!! Apart from the clicks and bangs from dust etc. I used to play mine wet but still had those annoying bits added! With downloads that is a thing of the past but getting to understand the process ................... !!

I have experienced no problems with a variety of files from many different suppliers/labels.
I have used Foobar and Korg Audiogate

With a range of DSD files available (find ours here), what's your experience playing back the native DSD files?
