Hi,

I am wondering how best to play a DSD 5.0 file from my laptop (a new high end Dell Precision M4700) and my J.River 18 software.

Does it require a 5 channel DSD ready DAC - or are the channels somehow derived from a stereo signal using a two channel DSD capable DAC?

J.River 18 has several channel configurations, 5.1 among them, but not the 5.0

I have very nice Martin Logan speakers as well as the new Neumann KH120 active monitors which I use for occasional recording purposes, but which could very nicely function as side speakers in a 5.0 system. I would then get a third KH120 as mid speaker.

Unfortunitly there's no multi-channel DSD DAC yet available using USB or Firewire. The closest on the horizon is the exaSound e18, which is multi-channel, but not yet with a DSD consumer usable input port.. We're hopeful for products capable of playing DSD multi-channel soon. It's a wonderful step forward in realistic music reproduction, especially with these natural sounding Channel Classics recordings.
