Hong Yan is the foremost Pipa player in China today. With 1000 year old compositions and other works specially written for her, the sounds she can create out of this instrument are amazing. Especially in Multichannel SACD! On this first recording she is playing solo works only.

‘Hua Xia Yue Yun' meaning:
‘the elite of Chinese music and Chinese musicians’

China is a country of contrasts, subtle images and refined tastes which have evolved over the last 5000 years. Our series will be exploring a diverse range of musical styles and bring these recordings to a world wide audience. The series will range from a simple Pipa solo to a full symphony orchestra. From 1000 year old traditional melodies to the best known Chinese composers of our time.

These are the first SACD recordings produced in China. This new technology of superior sound in stereo or multichannel is an important step for the Chinese listener and audiophile who are interested in quality sound and performance. Bowers & Wilkins have supplied us with their wonderful 805 series speakers. Van den Hul of the Netherlands have donated their top of the line cables to assist us in maintaining the highest standard for these recordings.

Channel Classics has been developing new contacts in China over the last two years. We had started out by giving presentations about the SACD format but have now joined forces with artists and institutions to record the first SACD’s and promote the top Chinese musicians of western and traditional music like the Pipa and the Erhu. We have also recorded the leading orchestra ‘The Beijing National Symphony Orchestra’.

By making the first SACD recording within China in association with the Beijing Concert Hall we have been working closely with a number of companies to ensure that our message gets across: establish top quality recordings.
  • Bouwers and Wilkens have donated speakers for these recordings. We used the Nautilus 805S which was perfect for the space that we were using as listening room

  • Van den Hul cables has supplied top quality microphone and interconnecting cables. By using the The INTEGRATION and The SECOND cables, this new technology has surpassed my expectations as to their quality.
