Details
Dietrich Buxtehude Buxtehude was born more than 350 years ago; at least it is now generally accepted that he was born in 1637. He died on 9 May 1707, having lived unusually long for his time. In 1668, at the age of 31, he found employment at the St. Marienkirche of Lbeck, and continued to occupy the position until his death some 40 years later. If we accept the nearly unanimous opinion of musicologists that most or even all of the surviving works come from this period of Buxtehudes life, than we could say that Buxtehude=Lbeck. His work It is certain that only a (small) part of Buxtehudes immense oeuvre has come down to us. Nevertheless, there are some 130 completely preserved vocal works, about 120 of which are on religious texts. In addition there are about 110 organ and harpsichord pieces and some 20 chamber music compositions.....

| Biography | Jos van Immerseel, the well-known harpsichordist and pianist, is appreciated all over the world for his authentic interpretations based on a balanced combination of technique, improvisational talent, and theoretical background. This is all the more striking when one knows that he is the first native Fleming in 150 years to have once again been awarded a chair at the Conservatoire National Suprieur of Paris. Over sixty recordings give evidence of the importance of primary source investigation in the shaping of a performance. For Jos van Immerseel, terms like rhetoric and stylistic approach are no longer sterile words. On the contrary, he has an unmatched ability to demonstrate that these elements, combined with pronounced and original musicality, can lead repeatedly to ground-breaking, unique interpretations. In 1985, after having conducted numerous ad hoc and guest ensembles for many years, Jos van Immerseel founded a permanent ensemble which was better suited to the realization of his musical ideas and the results of his research; at the same time it was an experimental medium for the testing of his theories in practice: Anima Eterna. Nine years later, the orchestra has recorded 15 CDs including an unsurpassed complete recording of Mozarts piano concerti. They have also made concert tours in Europe and Japan and have been awarded numerous prizes (including Cultural Ambassadors of the Flemish Community; Best Period Orchestra of 1992 from the prestigious American periodical, CD review; the Caecilia Prize of the Belgian musical press...). The orchestras rapid rise is due largely to its members, an international selection from among the best players from more than 15 countries who have created their own unique sound after five years of intensive rehearsal. As a result, Anima Eterna has created such a distinctive niche in the world of historic performance that it is now considered a benchmark for performances of e.g. Mozart and Schubert. |
